Title I of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA):
• Establishes minimum standards for sex offender registration and notification for all states.
• Standardizes information to be included on public sex offender websites to better track offenders across state lines.
• Establishes a three-tier framework for classifying sex offenders that requires them to check in periodically in person
• Establishes the Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering and Tracking (SMART) to help support in the implementation.
